L1: Kayak QuickStart: Lake Natoma (AM)    $79
                 
Do you want to learn to paddle but are not sure where to start? This morning class will allow you to try out and learn about different types of kayaks, including Sea and Touring Kayaks, Recreational Kayaks, and Sit-on-Tops. Learn basic strokes and the differences between each boat type. This class also focuses on essential water safety, and how to maximize your fun!
Class runs from 9:00AM to 1:00PM.

L2: Essentials of Kayak Touring: Lake Natoma    $119
                 
Your ticket to the wonderful world of sit inside kayaking! We teach you the basic strokes and efficient rescue techniques necessary for paddling closed deck kayaks on any type of water; graduates of this class are qualified to rent boats and participate in more advanced classes and trips. With three locations to choose from - Oakland Estuary, Half Moon Bay and Lake Natoma - we have the ideal kayaking classroom for you. Includes wet suit and paddling gear, and free rental coupon for a future trip!
Class duration: 9:00am - 4:00pm

L3: Coastal Kayak Skills Development: Lake Natoma    $119
                 
The open coast may be at least a couple of hours away but many paddlers from California's Central Valley enjoy paddling on large bodies of water including the ocean, the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta or Lake Tahoe. In this inspiring class we work extensively on boat lean and edging for ultimate control and maneuverability. We also review rescues in open water, introduce basic navigation techniques and fine tune your paddle strokes. This class is the stepping stone to the Surf Zone and beyond.
Class duration: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Prerequisites: L2: Essentials of Kayak Touring (or equivalent; you must have practiced wet-exit and rescue procedures). Recent paddling STRONGLY recommended, such as twice paddling in the previous 2 months.

L3: River Touring Skills Development    $129
                 
Open up a new world of paddling options - learn how to safely paddle touring and sea kayaks on the Class 1 to 2 moving water of the Lower American River. This class will develop upon the skills learned in the L3: Coastal Kayak Skills Development class while learning how to paddle safely and avoid common river hazards. We will review rescues in the context of moving water, introduce basic rapid running, ferry glides and eddy turns and fine tune your paddle strokes.

L3 - Eppie's Great Race Practice Run    $79
                 
During this lesson, we will paddle the entire Eppies Great Race course (from Sunrise to River Bend Park), refining your stroke technique and looking for the fastest lines down the river. There will be no surprises come race day after completion of this course. All gear included.

Kayak Rolling   
        

Sacramento / Rancho Cordova area Roll Classes and Open Practice Sessions are now held at the Northern California Swimstitute in Rancho Cordova (next to our retail shop) every Friday eve 7:00-8:30pm. (Classes meet at 6:30pm)

Build your confidence and learn to roll! Rolling is the safest and fastest self rescue technique available for white water paddlers and sea kayakers. We have heated pools in Rancho Cordova and the Bay Area for the most comfortable learning environment.

In Rancho Cordova; Spring sessions are scheduled for Fridays from 6:30-8:30pm

Note: Kayak rolling is taught in whitewater kayaks due to space limitations in the pool and to facilitate the learning process. If you already know how to roll and need to take our class in a Sea Kayak Please call us to make arrangements.
Practice Only Sessions (non-instructional): $10 pool fee with your own kayak (paid directly to the pool staff). If you would like to rent a whitewater boat for a practice session there is Separate $10 rental fee paid at CCK. Drop by or call the store at (916) 851-3600 to reserve a kayak for practice.

Prerequisites: There is no prerequisite for this class; however, previous paddling experience is highly recommended. Your progression will be quicker if you have completed Beginning Sea Kayaking or Whitewater 101.




ACA L2 Instructor Certification Workshop    $299
                 
ACA certification is the standard for quality instruction throughout the United States. These comprehensive workshops for experienced paddlers cover safety, technique, group management and teaching progression, in classroom and on-water sessions. Through this Level 2: Essentials of Kayak Touring Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) you will learn and present the knowledge and skills that are expected of Coastal Kayaking ACA instructor. A Level 2 instructor can teach beginner paddlers on lakes, calm protected ocean environments, and other flatwater settings. This 3-day workshop is taught on Lake Natoma and the Lower American River in the Sacramento region.
Please note: Before signing up, you must complete a brief questionnaire regarding kayak experience and skill level. All participants must be signed up at least two weeks prior to the workshop. Please plan ahead and let us know well in advance if you are interested.
Prerequisites: Strong fundamental kayak technique, including rescues. Teaching experience recommended.
