Kayak Basics - Afternoon: Lake Natoma    $59
                 

Do you want to learn to paddle but are not sure where to start? Take an afternoon to discover the sport by trying many different types of kayaks, including Sea Kayaks (Touring kayaks), Recreational Kayaks, and Sit-on-Tops. Learn basic strokes and the differences between each boat type. This class also focuses on essential water safety, and how to maximize your fun!

Prerequisites: Only the desire to learn! However, good physical condition is required to assure an enjoyable class. Beginning Sea Kayaking: Lake Natoma    $99

We teach you the basic strokes and efficient rescue techniques; graduates of this class are qualified to rent boats and participate in more advanced classes and trips. With three locations to choose from - Oakland Estuary, Half Moon Bay and Lake Natoma - we have the ideal sea kayaking classroom for you. Women's Beginning Sea Kayaking: Lake Natoma    $99
                 

The women's ticket to the wonderful world of kayaking! This Beginning Sea Kayaking class designed for women and taught by women will teach you basic strokes and efficient rescue techniques. Graduates of this class are qualified to rent boats and participate in more advanced classes and trips. Includes wetsuit, paddling gear, and free rental coupon for a future trip! Family Kayaking: Lake Natoma    $59
                 

Now you and your children can start on a terrific outdoor adventure together! Using smaller, youth sized kayaks or tandem kayaks we cover the basic skills necessary for safe and fun paddling. For kids 7 - 13 years of age accompanied by an adult.

Sea Kayaking II: Sacramento    $109
                 

In this inspiring class we work extensively on boat lean and edging for ultimate control and maneuverability. We also review rescues in open water, introduce basic navigation techniques and fine tune your paddle strokes. This class is the stepping stone to the Surf Zone and beyond.
Prerequisites: Beginning Sea Kayaking (or equivalent; you must have practiced wet-exit and rescue procedures). Recent paddling STRONGLY recommended, such as twice paddling in the previous 2 months.

Forward Stroke/Fitness Paddling Workshop    $59
                 
Already know how to kayak but want to improve your forward stroke for efficiency or racing? This four hour workshop will help tune your technique to reduce wear on your body and allow you to paddle faster and more efficiently. Class includes video analysis of each student's stroke.
Prerequisites: Sea Kayaking II (or equivalent); recent paddling experience recommended.

Brent Reitz Forward Stroke Clinic: Lake Natoma    $159
                 

This one-day course will introduce you to the finer details of the forward stroke. Brent Reitz, world class racer and 6 time National Wildwater Champion, will discuss stroke mechanics, body posture, boat dynamics, and more. We will video and critique your stroke during the class! Most of the class will be spent on the water practicing strokes. Remember, it's not pure strength, but good technique that's important!

Prerequisites: Sea Kayaking II (or equivalent) is helpful; recent paddling experience is strongly recommended. Students should be comfortable with basic strokes and maneuvers, as instruction will be limited to improving the forward stroke!

Kayak Rolling   
        
Build your confidence and learn to roll! Rolling is the safest and fastest self rescue technique available for white water paddlers and sea kayakers. We have heated pools in the Sacramento and Bay Area for the most comfortable learning environment. Roll classes are taught in Rancho Cordova at the Paradise Cove Aquatic Center or in Folsom at the Lembi Aquatic Center. Rancho sessions are scheduled for Thursdays from 7PM to 9PM; Folsom sessions are Saturdays/Sundays from 11:30AM - 1:30PM; actual duration in the pool is about 1.5 hours.

Kayak Rolling

Practice Only Sessions: $12 pool fee with your own kayak. $10 for whitewater boat rental. Call (916) 353-1880 to reserve a boat for practice; space is limited!

Note: Kayak rolling is normally taught in whitewater kayaks due to space limitations in the pool and to facilitate the learning process. Please call us if you wish to use a sea kayak for your session.

Leader Training Clinic    $129
                 
Are you interested in leading others on kayak trips? This workshop will introduce you to the safety concepts involved in group management on the water and the skills/preparation necessary for leading others.
Prerequisites: Sea Kayaking II, or equivalent, is the prerequisite for Leader Training; twice paddling in the previous 2 months is STRONGLY recommended.

ACA Coastal Instructor Development Workshop    $199
                 
ACA certification is the standard for quality instruction throughout the United States. These comprehensive workshops for experienced paddlers cover safety, technique, group management and teaching progression, in classroom and on-water sessions. The Level 3 - Coastal Kayaking Instructor Development Workshops (IDW) present the knowledge and skills that are expected of Coastal Kayaking ACA instructors - which certifies for teaching up to 1/2 mile from shore, waves less than 1' and wind under 10 knots. This 2-day class is taught on the local lakes of the Sacramento region. Certification takes place separately, during the Instructor Certification Examination (ICE).
Please note: Before signing up, you must complete a brief questionnaire regarding kayak experience and skill level. All participants must be signed up at least two weeks prior to the workshop. Please plan ahead and let us know well in advance if you are interested.
Prerequisites: Strong fundamental kayak technique, including rescues. Teaching experience recommended.

Intro To River Touring    $109
                 
Open up a new world of paddling options - learn how to safely paddle sea kayaks on the moving water of the Lower American River. This class will show you how to get the most enjoyment out of your boat while learning how to paddle safely and avoid common river hazards.
Prerequisites: Kayak Basics. Beginning Sea Kayaking required for use of closed deck sea kayaks. With recent paddling experience advised.

Paddling Basics for Eppie’s Great Race    $59
                 

Prepare for the world's oldest triathlon! This is the first of three offered classes that can give you the edge you need for a fun, safe and successful race. This introduction to the basics of paddling will be held on the calm, flat waters of Lake Natoma. We will focus on boat balance, basic paddling strokes (including an efficient forward stroke), boat control, and a capsize scenario (you will get wet). All gear included!
Prerequisites: None, but good physical condition is recommended for an enjoyable class.

Basic River Running for Eppie's Great Race    $69
                 

This lesson will be held on the top half of the Eppie's Racecourse beginning at the Sunrise access; we will discuss river features and hazards, and will be paddling and practicing maneuvers in moving water. As we practice our down river moves, we will pay special attention to the San Juan Rapid - the foe of many Eppie’s racers. Take out will be at Rossmoor Bar. All gear included.
Prerequisites: Kayak Basics or Beginning Sea Kayaking or previous Eppie’s Great Race Clinics

Eppie's Practice Run    $49
                 

During this lesson, we will paddle the entire Eppie’s race course (from Sunrise to Goethe), refining your stroke technique and looking for the fastest lines down the river. There will be no surprises come race day after completion of this course. All gear included.
Prerequisites: Kayak Basics, Beginning Sea Kayaking and Basic River Running, Whitewater experience/class, or previous Eppie’s Great Race Clinics

Warm Water Beginning Sea Kayaking Sacramento    $109
                 
Learn to kayak in the most comfortable environment! First, we teach the rescue section in a heated pool. Then we teach a session on strokes on a weekend day at beautiful Lake Natoma. Start dates are listed below. The class covers all the same information in our regular BSK, but also offers a more relaxed pace. Graduates of this class (both sessions) are qualified to rent sea kayaks and participate in more advanced classes and trips. Includes wet suit and paddling gear, and free rental coupon for a future trip!
Prerequisites: Kayak Basics class (or equivalent program) can be helpful, but no previous kayaking experience is required; however, good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; practicing the rescue procedures can be strenuous. The minimum age for Beginning Sea Kayaking is 14 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
