PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Reports To: Program Director

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE

California Canoe & Kayak is seeking a motivated individual to support our program and retail operation. The Program Assistant will provide exceptional customer service to support classes, trips, rental and retail programs. The focus will be on contacting customers, assisting with reservations and ensuring all events, courses, and trips have a lead instructor and necessary gear.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilities and equipment management in relation to California Canoe & Kayak programs.
  • Work with the Program Director to hire, train, maintain and provide scheduling for a team of instructors, guides and rental staff to accommodate the various levels and needs of customers.
  •  Work with the Program Director to obtain and maintain all applicable permit licenses, parking passes, etc.
  • Maintaining/filing all program paperwork including waivers, student evaluations, and instructor reports.
  • Work with the Program Director in the further development, growth and marketing opportunities specific to each program and creating new events.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

  • Assist with rentals and retail as needed 
  • Interface with Program Managers as well as the management team within the retail organization to ensure effective and efficient communication on the programs,
  •  Ensure that instructors are adhering to all set Policies and Procedures. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs to load and carry kayaks in uneven terrains, up to 200 yards.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and work calmly in intense or chaotic situations.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification/Wilderness First Responder preferred
  •  Minimum age 18 year

IDEAL CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE:

  • Outdoor leadership: 2 years preferred
  • Sea kayaking: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Able to work independently or in a team environment with minimum supervision
  • Lead team-building experience Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) knowledge
  • ACA or BCU certified prefer or repeated demonstration of bracing, rolling and rescue techniques.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Experience in all paddling disciplines and scuba diving.
  • Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office/Word/Excel/Internet Search
  • Practice Leave No Trace Ethics
