Warm Water Sea Kayak Rescue

Are you hesitant to practice your rescues in the chilly waters of the Bay? Don't want to squeeze into a tight wetsuit or heavy drysuit? Are you wanting to hone your assisted and self-rescue skills in the warm? If you answered YES, then this class is perfect for you! Join us for a session in a heated indoor pool where we will cover assisted and self-rescues in sea kayaks. If time allows, we will also explore some lesser-known yet useful rescue techniques. We will provide kayaks and all necessary gear.

Due to space limitations, this class is capped at a maximum of 2 participants. After the class, you’ll have the opportunity to practice on your own for just $20 (pool fee), using your kayak, or you can rent one from us for $50.

Cost: from $75, this includes the $20 pool fee.

    • Minimum enrollment is 2 people. Private 1:1 instruction can be arranged if the minimum enrollment is not met ($150).

Packrafting Basic Skills Lesson - Richmond Plunge

Join us for an engaging 2-hour basics packraft program designed for beginner to advanced paddlers! This hands-on experience will introduce you to the fundamentals of packrafting. This pool-based lesson is designed for packrafters to develop or improve essential skills in the calm, controlled environment of a heated pool. A quick and efficient self-rescue is an essential skill for a packrafter - the equivalent of a consistent combat roll for a kayaker. Come get feedback and drills to learn to get back into your boat almost as fast as you fell out of it!

Our instructors can also help you with other skills, such as boat setup, proper paddling technique, learning new paddling strokes, and swimming with a paddle. An introduction to rolling your packraft may also be part of this course, but we recommend signing up for a roll class in a hardshell as the best way to learn this skill and then transferring it over to learning to roll your packraft once you have the technique down in a hardshell.

After completing the lesson, participants are welcome to return during open roll sessions to practice independently (standard use fee applies).
This is appropriate for beginners through upper intermediate paddlers, whether you are learning these skills for the first time or refining your techniques to step up to harder whitewater.

Bring your own packraft, paddle, and PFD, or inquire about rental if needed. Wetsuits are also available to rent.

Rate:

    • $70.00 (2 people minimum, private 1:1 can be arranged if minimum is not met. Additional fee applies)

    • Price for instruction and pool fee

NOTE:

    • Participants are required to have their own boat and gear or

    • rent one from the instructor for $30

Prereq:

    • The minimum age for this class is 14 years. Minor must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
